Product Overview
This is an interesting mid-range smartphone because it clearly borrows its design language from the Galaxy S10 which is a flagship smartphone. I will tell you more about this later. Below is a list of the features it has.
Design and build
That O-display one the front panel of Galaxy M40 makes you think you are looking at a Galaxy S10- best believe that. And anything that resembles an S10 is just splendid. This front panel is of Corning Gorilla Glass protection and is a 98cm2 area. The corners are slightly curved and giving it a comfortable feel in the hands, and the plastic back has this reflective surface. There is a rear mounted fingerprint scanner on the back just below Samsung branding, both to the bottom right of the triple camera setup with flash in vertical orientation. In case you are wondering about the volume rocker and power button then you will find those on the right-hand side.
Display and camera
Let me mention that this is among the display panels in the market today on an almost bezel-less phone- neat. It is PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen with an 85% screen-to-body ratio. I wonder why Samsung did not use an AMOLED panel. This is how you will know, the PLS is noticeably harsher. The 1080 x 2340 pixels (~409 ppi density) resolution on its 6.3 inches sees it have small pixels hence clear pictures- also considering the ppi density. Viewing angles here are great and outdoor visibility is also bearable.
Turning to the cameras the primary camera has three lenses. The first is a 32 MP shooter. This is the main lens and it is well supported by two other lenses namely an 8 MP ultrawide shooter and a 5MP depth sensor. Video recording is 4K here, that is 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps.
There is a selfie camera on the front and you cannot miss it. It is a 16 MP, f/2.0 lens that shoots 1080p@30fps videos. It is a decent lens that shoots beautiful selfies and nice videos.
Performance
You will love this. Samsung Galaxy M40 runs Android 9.0 (Pie) with Samsung’s interface One UI.
A Qualcomm SDM675 Snapdragon 675 (11 nm) and an Octa-core (2×2.0 GHz Kryo 460 Gold & 6×1.7 GHz Kryo 460 Silver) CPU are on board with an Adreno 612 GPU for handling the graphics. It is a mid-tier smartphone this as you can see.
Now we can turn our attention to the battery performance. Sealed within is a non-removable Li-Po 3500 mAh battery. You have access to fast battery charging 15W with the provided charger. By the way you will also appreciate that this phone has USB Type C port- every phone in 2019 should really.
